Cette invitation soulève une vive indignation, ses positions étant incompatibles avec les valeurs de solidarité et de résistance portées par cet espace et l’ASBL Territoires de la Mémoire qui y opère. Souvent présenté comme progressiste, Élie Barnavi est un normalisateur qui dissimule l’oppression coloniale envers les Palestiniens sous des propositions diplomatiques. Mettre l’autorité palestinienne à Gaza ou prôner une solution à deux États ne suffit pas : l’apartheid, la colonisation, l’occupation et les massacres israéliens doivent cesser. Parfois, le masque de « bon démocrate » d’Elie Barnavi tombe. En apprenant le bilan de 35000 morts palestiniens sur BFM TV, il qualifie la « riposte » d’Israël comme « justifiée » et « nécessaire ». Il considère l’offensive militaire israélienne comme l’unique choix et les morts civiles palestiniennes commes des dommages collatéraux. "La chose la plus simple, c'est de soumettre Gaza à un tapis de bombes sans se poser de questions." (Elie Barnavi, Franceinfo, oct. 23) Il est troublant qu’une conférence de Michel Collon, journaliste et critique des politiques impérialistes, ait été annulée dans ce lieu, tandis que la venue d’Élie Barnavi est maintenue sans hésitation. Cette incohérence révèle un deux poids deux mesures injustifiable. En octobre, 3000 Israéliens, dont des professeurs universitaires, ont appelé aux sanctions internationales. Des professeurs belges ont rejoint cet appel le 14 novembre et appellent au boycott universitaire, mais pas l’ULiège. Barnavi est professeur à Tel Aviv et, malgré ce contexte et ces revendications, est invité à la cité miroir. Nous demandons à Elie Barnavi de rejoindre cet appel au boycott et d’annuler sa venue.
