Indeed, decades of supposed “democracy” in Europe and the West have often made us forget that dictatorship, war, and military occupation remain ever-present. Today, the Greek State is once again complicit in all kinds of oppression and extermination: the shootings at the Evros border and the ramming of migrant boats, the imprisonment and exhaustion inside detention centers and refugee camps, the sham trials in which migrants, the poor, and those resisting are sentenced to crushing fines and prison terms, the conditions of extreme labor exploitation in the workplaces, the exclusion from free healthcare, housing, and education. Even more so, the Greek State is entangled in the global war in the Eastern Mediterranean, West Asia–Middle East, and Africa. We do not simply understand that genocidal war is becoming the norm, but that Greece provides the geo-economic infrastructure, political support, and ideological legitimization for ethnic cleansing and genocide, invoking its own interests. Because while in Gaza, Sudan, and Congo the colonial-racist, patriarchal capitalist system exterminates the oppressed who do not “fit” into its social reproduction, certain Greek businesses are making deals, fortifying repression against both the internal and external enemy. The settler-colonialism of the Zionist State, the biggest military occupation of a foreign land and people in the world, the genocide against Palestine, condenses, in the most open, raw, and shameless public way, this entire antagonism between a state-capital with genocidal overpowers and an impoverished population resisting in historic Palestine by every means. But it also condenses Western and Greek responsibility, which is also our responsibility. [1/2]
