Yet all too often, western church Christmas services tell a sanitized and colonized version of the story, with no opportunity to lament or even acknowledge the genocide happening in the land where Christmas and Christianity originated. If you share our longing for a Christmas gathering that doesn't sideline Palestine, please join us on Tuesday December 16th for "A Very Palestinian Christmas." Organized by Palestinian and non-Palestinian Christian activists, this will be a time for decolonizing and reclaiming the story, and for sharing stories of our own. There will be opportunities to sing, light candles, share memories, and eat good food. Together we will mourn, seek hope, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing struggle for liberation. In November 2023, the ASHTAR Theatre in Ramallah put out a global call to artists to perform the Gaza Monologues written by their artists under siege. A searing monologue by Ali entitled From Gaza to Shakespeare is a deep yearning call for Shakespeare to ‘get up’ and inspire the people of Gaza at this time of darkness and despair. This performance is a response to this monologue. Our voices and bodies weaving together Shakespearian works with the Gaza Monologues as a motif of liberation and resistance.’ Shakespeare to Gaza, is a form of protest theatre drawing on the motif of liberation and resistance.

The Hague Group is co-chaired by Colombia and South Africa. On 15 December it will host its first public meeting in South Africa bringing ministers, diplomats, and movement leaders together at the Avalon Theatre, Homecoming Centre in District Six, Cape Town at 4:00pm.
