Dopo l'invasione sionista nel campo profughi di Jenin nel 2002 durante la Seconda Intifada e la realizzazione del documentario "Jenin, Jenin", Bakri ha fatto ritorno al campo per documentare la più recente aggressione da parte delle forze di occupazione sioniste nel 2023, nel nuovo film "Janin, Jenin". Il 24 dicembre 2025, l'attore e regista Mohammad Bakri è venuto a mancare all'età di 72 anni, dopo aver dedicato la sua vita a raccontare la vita e la resistenza palestinese alla colonizzazione sionista. É fondamentale, in una data come quella della Giornata della Terra, ricordare il valore che la Palestina detiene come patria e casa di generazioni di palestinesi che, dal suo interno o in esilio, resistono al colonialismo di insediamento sionista in terra palestinese e araba da oltre cento anni. Una Palestina culla della massima rappresentazione della resistenza all'imperialismo sionista e occidentale, in una lotta di liberazione che va al di là dei confini geografici della Palestina. In un contesto di colonialismo d'insediamento come quello sionista, il cinema palestinese diventa un linguaggio potente e universale: un atto di memoria, libertà e rivendicazione del diritto al ritorno. Fino al suo ultimo giorno Bakri ha sfruttato il potere della narrazione per smascherare la propaganda dell'occupazione, in una ricorrenza come la Giornata della Terra abbiamo il dovere di sfidare questa propaganda e sostenere la resistenza palestinese fino alla liberazione. Dr. Rabab Abdulhadi is a Palestinian scholar and activist who is the founding director of the Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diaspora Studies (AMED) program at SFSU, and she started the intellectual project “Teaching Palestine: Pedagogical Praxis and the Indivisibility of Justice”. Teaching Palestine focuses on watershed historical moments that shape & influence the Palestinian struggle for justice, freedom and return. We are very honored to have her come speak for the third time here, and want to thank @westchesterforpalestine for working with us again and helping plan this event. We will also be pulling excerpts from Annemarie Jacir’s 2026 film, PALESTINE 36, and Ghassan Kanafani’s book “The 1936-39 Revolution in Palestine” to further understand the historical moment and contextualize the period leading up to, during, and following the revolt. March 30th is Palestinian Land Day, in 1976 on March 30th, six Palestinians were killed while protesting the Israeli expropriation of their land. For 50 years Palestinians have continued to commemorate Land Day, holding demonstrations, strikes, vigils, and reaffirming their connection to the land as a way to fight against the Zionist occupation and the destruction of their land. As the violence across the region intensifies, we hope to use this day to come together and reaffirm our support for the decades-long Palestinian fight for liberation, and for freedom of all lands from imperial and colonial violence.

A self-taught artist, he is known for his unique technique of pyrography-burning images onto wood and enhancing them with dyes and heat-applied colors. His work reflects deep themes of land, identity, and heritage. Elshareif has exhibited widely in Palestine and abroad, including solo and duo exhibitions such as "What the Earth Says" (2017) and "Jerusalem, Salt of the Earth" (2017).
