Friday, October 25 | 7–9PM 1499 Fruitvale Ave Livestream TBD Since the period of the British colonization of Palestine, prisons have been a colonial tactic to contain and squash indigenous Palestinian resistance. In 1936, the Arab revolt against the British took place; thousands of the Arabs who demonstrated and went on strike were imprisoned without trial—a tactic of administrative detention which the Zionist entity continues to use today. Zionism depends on mass imprisonment as a form of collective punishment against Palestinians, to sustain the Zionist settler-colonial project. As the Palestinian prisoner is in daily confrontation with the Zionist entity, every facet of life becomes a battle for dignity: food, water, clothing, healthcare, and more. They thus represent a nation in captivity; all of historic Palestine is a carceral state under occupation and colonization by the Zionist entity. For decades now, Palestinians detained in zionist prisons have experienced the worst conditions the genocidal entity has to offer: solitary confinement, torture, deprivation from food and water, medical neglect, extended sentences, and lack of family visits. As a form of collective punishment, the only purpose Zionist dungeons serve is to break the revolutionary will of our people, to isolate the political prisoner and destroy the Palestinian spirit. And yet, Palestinian political prisoners have transformed the prison into a site of struggle, a school, and a revolutionary training ground. They have asserted their right to be active participants in their fight for freedom, a guiding force in the struggle for liberation, and a thorn in the enemy’s throat at every turn.
