Globally, the israeli genocide and ethnic cleansing in occupied Palestine and Lebanon continues unabated, with over 1.2 million forcibly displaced and 2000 killed (including 600 children) in Lebanon alone since March 2. Mark Carney, when asked on April 9th about imposing sanctions on the Israeli state for its illegal invasion into Lebanon, answered that he “wouldn’t go that far.” Last week “israel” passed a racist law allowing execution of Palestinian prisoners. The US/“israel’ are directly sponsoring violent militias in Gaza (BBC), and last week publicly stated their plan to arm Kurdish groups to foment an uprising within Iran. On Turtle Island, the Canadian government has not taken any diplomatic or economic actions to resist the israeli E1 expansion plan that will effectively sever the occupied West Bank. Words alone have no effect on the israeli government, pressure in the form of actions is needed. Locally, premier Eby wants to suspend sections of DRIP, and/or appeal recent court decisions regarding major resource projects on unceded Indigenous land (CBC) “You can’t put a pause on Aboriginal rights and title.” — Robert Phillips, Secwepemc Nation (First Nations Leadership political executive). The rally and march for a free Palestine addresses colonialism from Turtle Island to Palestine, beginning with these unceded lands. It is held every Saturday at 1pm on Lekwungen land (BC Legislature, Victoria). There is a welcome table with information for newcomers. This is a peaceful and welcoming rally to add your voice toward ending racist colonial systems of apartheid, from Turtle Island to Palestine.
