Wear Kuffiyahs and bring Palestinian flags! … As we approach Nakba Day (May 15) and 77 years of Israel’s ongoing Nakba against the Palestinian people, we are turning to Palestinian spoken word poetry to remind each other that the western backed Zionist genocide in occupied Palestine did not begin in October 2023. We’ll be performing poems by two Palestinian poet-activists in diaspora: Suheir Hammad’s 5-poem series “Gaza Suite” (2009) and Remi Kanazi’s “Normalize This!” (2012). Both works are helpful reminders to us all that the Palestinian people have been warning us about the violence of Zionism for generations, including through art. We hope this performance will encourage more of us to listen and learn from the Palestinian people, to radically love, and to collectively organise - together - for a Free Palestine.
