Jednou z nejtěžších věcí, se kterou se mnoho vězňů musí vyrovnat, je pocit izolace - odříznutí od přátel, rodiny a všeho, co znají ze svého běžného života. Dopis z reálného světa, i od úplně neznámého člověka, pomáhá udržovat spojení s okolním světem. Pro ty, kteří bojují zpoza vězeňských zdí, je to jednoduchá zpráva solidarity - nejste v tom sami! V britských věznicích je v současné době 8 vězňů držících protestní hladovku - všichni jsou uvězněni kvůli údajné účasti na přímých akcích na podporu Palestiny proti izraelským výrobcům zbraní nebo britské armádě. Odmítají jíst již více než 40 dní. Mnozí z nich jsou drženi bez soudu již přes rok, přestože podle britského práva je maximální délka vyšetřovací vazby 6 měsíců.
