Men vi vet, av erfarenhet, att detta inte är första gången ett eldupphör utropats, och att ockupationen gång på gång brutit sina löften, ignorerat överenskommelser och fortsatt begå handlingar som strider mot internationell rätt. Vi har bevittnat hur vapnen tystnat för en stund, bara för att sedan åter ljuda över samma ruiner, mot samma folk som redan förlorat allt. Vi hoppas, ja, att detta eldupphör kan vara början på något bestående, men vi vägrar låta hoppet blinda oss för verkligheten. För varje gång världen vänt ryggen, varje gång förövarna fått fortsätta utan att ställas till svars, har ockupationen stärkt sitt grepp. Verklig fred kan aldrig byggas på tillfälliga pauser. Fred kan inte växa ur ett folkmord som bara får andas mellan anfallen, och rättvisa kan inte existera där en ockupation fortsätter att styra, blockera, fängsla och förneka ett helt folk deras mänskliga värdighet. Oavsett om detta eldupphör varar i dagar eller månader, eller om det är permanent, står vårt mål fast: en fullständig befrielse av Palestina, ett slut på förtrycket och ett upprättande av rättvisa. The author is trying to finish a novel. He insists that it should be an aesthetic project, he is an artist and does not want to be defined by geopolitical conditions, but constantly experiences that the outer reality is forcing itself on and taking control over the novel characters and the evolution of the narrative. What does art mean when the world is burning? Art and culture hold the essence of who we are, have been and will be.
